Great Greywater Senior Thesis Paper

OK, give it up for a senior project paper on greywater titled An Education on Growing Water Scarcity and The Benefits of Domestic Greywater Recycling Systems by Patricia Cates at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. We have seen other thesis projects and cutting edge research from the California university system on the Rainbow Water Coalition, so it comes as no surprise that the cavalcade of greywater reuse research is trickling down to the undergraduates, too.

But what makes this paper unique is the public perception research completed in, of all places,  Pocatello, Idaho. Nothing against Pocatello, or Idaho, as I lived and worked in Montpelier early in my career, but rather this study is some of the first research I have seen where the researcher asked the person on the street what they thought of greywater reuse. While the number of folks interviewed totaled 20, the results are still enlightening. Take for example the likelihood of installing a greywater reuse system in the Pocatello area shown on this chart where 40% of those polled thought they might do it.

Why would they install a greywater reuse system? This would warm the steely heart of die-hard water economists like Dr. David Zetland at Aguanomics - price of water!

A good read and interesting assessment in a state of wide open spaces known for mining silver and sapphires but not typically associated for being "green", ranking in the top ten in the US.

The most powerful argument of all for saving open space is economics; in most states, tourism is the number two industry.

  1. Hello. Thank you for your kind words regarding my paper. I have always been an advocate for water conservation and was thrilled to be able to get some greywater ed out there. Great blog!

  2. Well, if your good doing this senior thesis, then I think you would be great if your work on the same topic when you’re at Uni. This research would be a great thesis help if ever you work on the same field for a degree at college. Anyway, I do hope everything went well with your thesis project.
