Getting permits for simple gravity-flow greywater systems is now an over-the-counter permit using standard plans instead of a grueling, kafkaesque descent into bureaucratic hell.
This is the result of a collaboration between building and health officials and a coalition of greywater activists and experts: Greywater Corps, Geosyntec Engineers, and The River Project (who funded our work through a grant from the California Coastal Conservancy)
Here is a link to the simple but thorough permit application. The Rainbow Water Coalition found it interesting that a Professional Engineer is needed for the soils report.
Oregon may need to revisit their graywater program if the numbers of permitted systems does not increase over the coming year. The two options to consider are the efforts by Leigh Jerrad and his army of greywater gurus, or the Arizona way - repealing the rules as outlined in this recent article in the Arizona Daily Star.
